Fall 2010 QuickStart Information

The GWTA will be sponsoring a QuickStart tennis program over six weekends from September 18 to October 23. There will be an Introductory program for children ages 6-10 and an Instructional program for children 11-14. Men's Senior 4.5 Team Takes the State Title

Kenny Martin's Senior 4.5 team got two clutch third set tie-breakers when they needed them to overcome a tough Winston Salem team and clinch the state title this weekend in Greenville. The Martin team advances to the Sectional championships in Birmingham where they will face other state champions from all over the southeast. Congrats to Kenny's team, and check out this video of Johnnie Harris and Anna Martin showing off the contents of their tennis bags.

Hoggard Boys Fall in State Semi's

Raleigh Broughton defeated the Hoggard Boys tennis team 5-1 Thursday to advance to the state 4A finals. This was the second time highly rated 24-1 Broughton team beat the Vikings this year. The Vikings close the season with a 17-3 record and a fifth place ranking in the 4A Coach's Poll. Broughton will play 18-2 Winston-Salem R.J. Reynolds in the finals after Reynolds beat previously undefeated Charlotte Myers Park in the other state semi-final.

Many of our USTA sanctioned leagues require USTA membership to participate. You can join the USTA via their web site. You can also renew your USTA membership over the phone with FAX confirmation by calling 1-800-990-USTA. Don't wait till the last moment! All memberships must be current through the end of league play.

Empie Tennis Center Grand Opening Scheduled for September 11

On Saturday, September 11th, 2010 we are planning a grand opening celebration for the new tennis center. The celebration will include:

A Tennis Carnival for children, 10 am to 12 noon

A QuickStart Tennis Tournament for children, 8 am to 12 noon

A Junior Team Tennis Tournament, 8 am to 12 noon

A World Team Tennis Tournament, 8 am to 8 pm
