The GWTA will be sponsoring a QuickStart tennis program over six weekends from September 18 to October 23. There will be an Introductory program for children ages 6-10 and an Instructional program for children 11-14. Cape Fear Sweeps Ashley in Season Opener |

The Cape Fear Academy's varsity "A" tennis team defeated Ashley High School 9-0 Thursday afternoon in the season opener for both teams. The non-conference match was a great opportunity for the beginning players on both teams, giving every player the chance to play at least one match. Friday, Cape Fear will face Parrott Academy, expected to be one of CFA's toughest opponents of the season. Next up for Ashley is a rematch with Cape Fear Academy on September 2.

Durham Academy Defeats Laney 7-2 |

The Durham Academy Cavaliers took home a 7-2 victory over Laney on Friday. Louisa Cone was a bright spot for Laney, winning at second singles 6-1, 6-3 then teaming up with Leigh-Anne McAfee to win at first doubles 8-2. The 1-1 Bucaneers' next match is Tuesday 8/24 against Topsail at Laney. (Update: The Tuesday match vs Topsail was rained out and it rescheduled for 4:00 on 9/8 at Laney)

USTA Membership
Many of our USTA sanctioned leagues require USTA membership to participate. You can join the USTA via their web site. You can also renew your USTA membership over the phone with FAX confirmation by calling 1-800-990-USTA. Don't wait till the last moment! All memberships must be current through the end of league play.

| On Saturday, September 11th, 2010 we are planning a grand opening celebration for the new tennis center. The celebration will include:
A Tennis Carnival for children, 10 am to 12 noon
A QuickStart Tennis Tournament for children, 8 am to 12 noon
A Junior Team Tennis Tournament, 8 am to 12 noon
A World Team Tennis Tournament, 8 am to 8 pm
