Fall 2010 QuickStart Information

The GWTA will be sponsoring a QuickStart tennis program over six weekends from September 18 to October 23. There will be an Introductory program for children ages 6-10 and an Instructional program for children 11-14. Star News Selects Cape Fear Academy's Jan Reintjes as Tennis Player of the Year

Rising senior Jan Reintjes received the nod for tennis player of the year after finishing second in the NCISAA Class AA state tournament and leading his team to a second straight state championship. You can read the write-up at the Star News website.

Wilmington Seniors Capture State Title

Two Wilmington Senior Tennis teams captured state titles in Greenville this weekend, allowing them to advance to the Southern Regional Tournament. The women's 4.0 team captained by Beverly Blalock and the men's 3.0 team led by Carol Cini will represent North Carolina in Birmingham starting July 25. Sylvia Hornick's Women's 3.0 team also made it to the finals only to fall 2-1 to Lake Norman. 77 teams participated in this year's championships after qualifying in local league play. The senior's league is open to players turning 50 or older during the league year. Play is organized based on NTRP skill levels. (Men's 3.0 team picture not available.)

Empie Tennis Center Grand Opening Scheduled for September 11

On Saturday, September 11th, 2010 we are planning a grand opening celebration for the new tennis center. The celebration will include:

A Tennis Carnival for children, 10 am to 12 noon

A QuickStart Tennis Tournament for children, 8 am to 12 noon

A Junior Team Tennis Tournament, 8 am to 12 noon

A World Team Tennis Tournament, 8 am to 8 pm
