Fall 2010 QuickStart Information

The GWTA will be sponsoring a QuickStart tennis program over six weekends from September 18 to October 23. There will be an Introductory program for children ages 6-10 and an Instructional program for children 11-14. Former Hoggard Star Making Waves at LSU

Former Hoggard standout Kaitlin Burns has been named to the 2010 Women's Collegiate All-Louisiana Second Tennis Team and the 2010 Southeastern Conference Freshmen Academic Honor Roll. Ms. Burns led the Hoggard Vikings to four straight conference titles while in Wilmington. During her freshman year at LSU, she compiled a 20-18 singles record including a streak of seven straight wins to start the season.

North Carolina's best junior tennis teams came in from around the state to compete in the 2010 North Carolina USTA Jr. Team Tennis State Championships, held at Cary Tennis Park. Play began on the afternoon of Friday, July 16th and ran through Sunday afternoon.

USTA Membership

Many of our USTA sanctioned leagues require USTA membership to participate. You can join the USTA via their web site. You can also renew your USTA membership over the phone with FAX confirmation by calling 1-800-990-USTA. Don't wait till the last moment! All memberships must be current through the end of league play.

Empie Tennis Center Grand Opening Scheduled for September 11

On Saturday, September 11th, 2010 we are planning a grand opening celebration for the new tennis center. The celebration will include:

A Tennis Carnival for children, 10 am to 12 noon

A QuickStart Tennis Tournament for children, 8 am to 12 noon

A Junior Team Tennis Tournament, 8 am to 12 noon

A World Team Tennis Tournament, 8 am to 8 pm
