Empie Park Improvements Nearing Completion PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Clubhouse construction at Empie ParkA project to add ten new hard courts to Empie Park is scheduled to be finished in mid July according to a recent Star News article.  The effort is the first stage of construction for the Althea Gibson Tennis Center at Empie Park and is funded from the 2006 Parks and Recreation bond issue.  The ten new courts and new clubhouse will bring the total available courts at Empie to 18 with six more planned for the next phase.  (Check out the sitemap!)

The tennis center is named after five time Grand Slam winner and racial pioneer Althea Gibson who attended Williston High School in 1946.  If you would like to donate to support the construction of the second phase of the project, please check out the link at the tennis center website.
