North Carolina's best junior tennis teams came in from around the state to compete in the 2010 North Carolina USTA Jr. Team Tennis State Championships, held at Cary Tennis Park. Play began on the afternoon of Friday, July 16th and ran through Sunday afternoon.
A small rain shower suspended play mid-day on Saturday, but soon the sun came back out and dried the courts. However, only a couple hours later a heavy downpour put an end to play for the remainder of the day and matches were rescheduled for Sunday morning. The tournament finished up on a beautifully sunny Sunday afternoon and all winners were declared and sent home with medals and chance to compete at the Sectional Championships.
The State Championships serve as the premier event and demonstrate the best elements of tennis: spirited competition, friendship, achievement, sportsmanship, and fun. Six teams will earn state championship crowns and be granted passage on to the USTA Southern Sectional Championships to be held in Mobile, Alabama August 20-22, 2010. Winners in Mobile will then advance to National Championships later this year.
