On Saturday, September 11th, 2010 we are planning a grand opening celebration for the new tennis center. The celebration will include:

A Tennis Carnival for children, 10 am to 12 noon

A QuickStart Tennis Tournament for children, 8 am to 12 noon

A Junior Team Tennis Tournament, 8 am to 12 noon

A World Team Tennis Tournament, 8 am to 8 pm

In addition, we will have food vendors (Chick-Fil-A, Domino’s, Port City Java) and other activities.
All activities are free but we encourage all participants to give a donation that will go toward the completion of phase 2 of the tennis center that will include 5 additional tennis courts (soft) and the Life Style and Education building that will available for the children of Wilmington.


Here is the information regarding all the activities and format:

Adult Tournament

The Adult tournament will be using the World Team Tennis format.
In this double elimination team tournament, you will have the opportunity to play both doubles and mixed doubles.  Each team will be comprised of a minimum of three and a maximum five men and a minimum of three and maximum of five women. We are looking for teams in the following levels:

  • 6.0 to 7.0
  • 7.5 to 8.0
  • 8.5 and above

Each team “match” will be comprised of:

  • One men’s doubles court
  • One women’s doubles court
  • One mixed doubles court

Winners will be first to “four” games by a margin of two.  In case of a four-four tie, 7 points tie-breaker
At any point in a match, players on the team can substitute for someone on the court. You can switch players as many times in one game as you want! Pre-registration is required for every team, teams must meet the required minimum of three men and three women to register. There is no fee for the tournament.

Tennis Carnival for Kids:  (No pre-Registration is required)

The Kids Tennis Carnival will be held at the old tennis courts at Empie Park from 10:00am to 12:00Noon and is organized by North Carolina Tennis Association.

Tennis Activities for Kids (Pre-Registration Required)

  • QuickStart and Junior Tennis at the new tennis courts
  • 8U QuickStart – 8:00-9:30
  • Must be 8 or under on September 11, 2010
  • Doubles Play Only.  Maximum of 20 - 2 player teams
  • Round Robin – Total of 5 rounds with play going for 10 minutes per round. When 10 minutes is up, the winning player moves up and the losing player moves down – the winning player on Court 1 remains on Court 1 and the losing player on Court 5 remains on Court 5. At the end of 5 rounds, the players on the top courts will play a 10 minute round for the championship.
  • Scoring: 7 point games
  • Serving: Switch server every two serves. Drop serves allowed into any box.


10U QuickStart – 9:45-11:00

  • Must be 10 or under on September 11, 2010
  • Doubles Play Only. Maximum of 10 - 2 player teams
  • Round Robin – Total of 5 rounds with play going for 10 minutes per round. When 10 minutes is up, the winning player moves up and the losing player moves down – the winning player on Court 1 remains on Court 1 and the losing player on Court 5 remains on Court 5. At the end of the 5 rounds, the player on the top court is the champ.
  • Scoring: traditional no-ad scoring with receiving team determining which player accepts the deuce point serve. Switch sides after every odd game.


12U – 11:00-1:00

  • Must be 12 or under on September 11, 2010
  • Doubles Play Only. Maximum of 10 – 2 player teams
  • 2 Divisions, Division 1 plays 11:00-12:00 Division 2 plays 12:00-1:00
  • Round Robin – Total of 5 rounds with play going for 8 minutes per round. When 8 minutes is up, the winning player moves up and the losing player moves down – the winning player on Court 1 remains on Court 1 and the losing player on Court 5 remains on Court 5. At the end of the 5 rounds, the player on the top courts will play a 10 minute round for the championship.
  • Scoring: traditional no-ad scoring with receiving team determining which player accepts the deuce point serve. Switch sides after every odd game.


14U Round Robin - 1:00-3:00 PM

  • Must be 14 or under on September 11, 2010
  • Doubles Only:
  • 5 teams consisting of 3 girls and 3 boys
  • Match Play consists of 1 Girls Doubles, 1 Boys Doubles and 1 Mixed Doubles
  • Scoring: One short set to 4 games, 7 point tie break at 3-3. Traditional no-ad scoring with receiving team determining which player accepts the deuce point serve, except in Mixed Doubles where the girl serves to girl and boy to boy. Switch sides after every odd game.


18U Round Robin - 3:00 -5:00 PM

  • Must be 18 or under on September 11, 2010
  • Doubles Only:
  • 5 teams consisting of 3 girls and 3 boys
  • Match Play consists of 1 Girls Doubles, 1 Boys Doubles and 1 Mixed Doubles
  • Scoring: One short set to 4 games, 7 point tie break at 3-3. Traditional no-ad scoring with receiving team determining which player accepts the deuce point serve, except in Mixed Doubles where the girl serves to girl and boy to boy. Switch sides after every odd game.


Pre-registration is required for every team, teams must meet the required minimum of three boys and three girls to register.
