It is time to think about LEAGUE TENNIS again! 2005 is going to bring a few changes in the league including tie-breaks in lieu of third sets. This is the format that has been used in the state tournament for several years now. Wilmington was one of the few local leagues that have not made the switch. Court availability at both public and private courts helped drive our decision.
Check out the Calendar for important dates for the coming season. Don't miss a deadline! Please remember that the goal of the league is to have fun. Play is governed by the USTA rules and The Code. We also have local league rules concerning warm up times and club rules. Please follow the links to read them if you are unfamiliar with them.
We will still have increased team sizes this year. Of course this is a double edged sword since the more players on a team, the less playing time you get.
Last season we had far too many teams playing up a level. Not only does this dilute our league, but it creates the need for more courts. Please consider playing at your computer rating or at least get on a team that the majority of the players are rated the level they are playing. It will truly make our local play more competitive and fun for all. We had a proposal to limit the number of people on a team from playing up. While it is not in place for 2005, it will be a hot topic during the year and we may try it in 2006.
Are you using TENNIS LINK? All our scores are being kept online this year using the USTA Tennis Link Program! The means
you can get up to date match scores, players records, and even the line-ups your next opponent used last week! Note that those scores are unofficial. Only Anna has the official scores. We've already noticed some "features" in Tennis Link that aren't quite right, but overall, it is very impressive. Here is the link to the Tennis Link page.
